While BTS is one of the biggest groups in the world right now. They receive A LOT of love from fans, and other celebrities, we often forget that, there is a dark side that people tend to not pay attention to. BTS has one of the largest fan base in the world. With that many fans, it’s a given that they’d have a large Anti-Fan base as well. Even though they receive so much love and recognition, never forget, they had a long, tiring, journey as well.
With that being said, here’s some challenges they had to face :
- Pursuit in Sweden
The septet had stopped by a cafe to grab a bite, and relax when a group of people had seen them. The group had continued to stare at them through the windows of the cafe, watching them eat. They continued to loiter around the cafe until the boys had finished eating and came out. The cameraman had kindly asked the group to give them space and leave the area (they were shooting a video), the group had pretended to leave, until they started chasing the boy group. BTS members had to literally run away.
Plagiarism is a common allegation artists have to go through. However, BTS had problems where fans would accuse them of plagiarism multiple times. Leader RM, had been accused multiple times as well. The septet had also been accused of stealing/copying themes, or stage concepts and etc, eventually causing people to call them “Pyojeolsonyeondan” (Plagiarism Boys).
- Death Threats
Receiving death threats is also something a lot of celebrities have to go through as well. There has been a threat that caused BTS to cancel their concert. A twitter user had post a picture of a gun with a caption that had implied that he/she was going to shoot BTS’ leader/rapper, RM. Many fans were confused and upset because of the cancellation of the show. It was later revealed that RM had received a death threat and apologized to the fans. More than upset, fans for sorry and glad that he was safe.
BTS member Jimin had also received a death threat. Similar to RM, a twitter user had posted a gun and had a caption implying Jimin was going to die. Authorities found out about this threat and started investigating, making sure nothing would happen. Jimin had later posted an update stating, “I’m not going to be caught up by these threats. There are so many people waiting to see me. I don’t think anyone has to worry because my staff members take very good care of me”. Luckily nothing had happened during the concert! (hurray emoji)
- Cheating the charts
When BTS had outsold Big Bang (in 2015), there was a rumor that had started stating that BTS had used “sajaegi” (사재기). Sajaegi is when an idol would cheat and buy their own albums to boost and increase chances of winning music awards. Big Hit Entertainment had later release a statement, stating they didn’t have the resources to that. The matter had escalated and reach the Seoul Prosecutor’s desk. They ruled out the chances of BTS using sajaegi and dismissed the case, which lead to the rumor dying out.
- Airport Mob
When the boy group had arrived in Indonesia, the group had been mobbed. BTS-crazed fans did not respect the members personal space and started touching the boys wherever they can. The fans pushed and shoved each other to touch the members of BTS (mainly Jungkook). The fans had then started chasing the boys to take pictures of them and touch them as well.
- Sex allegations
There have been many rumors circling around the septet but, of those rumors, one of them would be sex allegations. Rumors stating members would be in a sexual relationship with a fan. Leader RM had been a victim to one of these rumors, when RM had sent a thank you video to a fan, the fan had showed her friends which quickly leaked out to the internet. The video had been sent because the fan had posted a video of RM freestyling Wale’s song. Wale had commented it a couple days later, asking for a collaboration. When the two rappers proceeded to make a collaboration, the fan had been taking credit online, indirectly stating it was thanks to her the collaboration happened. Anti-Fans had later started spreading rumors that RM and the twitter fan had been in a sexual relationship.
There are much more hardships BTS had to go through. Although there had been many obstacles along the path of their journey, they have continued to endure it and push through it. Let’s continue to support BTS from now on and love them <3. Thanks for reading, and tune in for more BTS updates!
One of their biggest anti-fans… Jungkook’s Brother!!!!! Constantly drawing them/making memes of them!!
